TE ROHE O PONEKE KI TE WHANGANUI A TARA HAAHI MIHINARE

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia encompasses the area described by its title.

The 1992 Constitution of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia provides for the Three Partners to order their affairs within their own cultural context.

Within Aotearoa New Zealand:

  • Tikanga Pakeha comprises seven Dioceses, and
  • Tikanga Maori comprises five (5) Hui Amorangi, the boundaries of which differ from those of the dioceses.
  • Tikanga Pasefika encompasses Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands, and is known as the Diocese of Polynesia.

The Tikanga Maori Hui Amorangi are:

  • Te Pihopatanga o te Tai Tokerau,
  • Te Pihopatanga o Te Manawa o te Wheke,
  • Te Pihopatanga o te Tairawhiti,
  • Te Pihopatanga o te Upoko o te Ika,
  • Te Pihopatanga o te Waipounamu

Te Hui Amorangi ki te Upoko o te Ika:

  • Current Bishop: Bishop Waitohiariki QUAYLE: May 2019 -

Te Amorangi ki te Upoko o te Ika comprises Eight (8) Rohe of which Te Rohe o Poneke ki Te Whanganui a Tara is domiciled in close proximity to central Wellington; and provides Tikanga Karakia (ministry) in the Central Wellington City - Pipitea area - and, reaching into the suburbs of Newlands, Island Bay, Lyall Bay and Miramar.
